Mixed Waste, Organics & Specialized Recovery Streams

This video explains how mixed waste is processed within the Materials Recovery Facility. Recyclable and hazardous materials such as electronics, batteries, lamps, and mattresses are carefully recovered before the remaining residual waste is sent to landfill.

It also highlights the processing of organic waste, where food scraps and yard trimmings are treated using advanced depackaging and anaerobic digestion systems to produce renewable energy and compostable outputs, along with specialized drop-off areas that ensure the safe handling of universal, construction, and hazardous materials.

Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) Sorting Process

This video provides a detailed look at the Materials Recovery Facility, where large volumes of recyclable materials are processed daily. Materials such as paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, and metals are sorted through a combination of advanced mechanical systems, optical technology, and manual sorting.

Conveyor systems, ballistic separators, magnets, and robotic arms work together to separate materials efficiently. Once sorted, recyclables are compacted into dense bales and sent to recycling mills, where they are transformed into new products.

This process plays a critical role in reducing landfill waste and supporting a circular economy.
